Dear Vinnie Jones, in 1981 the original version of Escape to Victory starred some of the greatest footballers the world had known as well as Sir Michael Caine and Sly Stallone - the film was a stinker so please, if you insist on remaking it please make sure you stick to the spirit of the piece and make it a stinker. Wait a minute, I'm writing to Vinnie Jones - that's a relief, it obviously will be a stinker.
It seems to be remake season, with Clash of Titans, True Grit and others on the way, they must have run out of original ideas and yet recently I have been reading books that have some wonderful twists and turns - never see the movies appear though - sad. Hopefully they wont be making any more Dan Brown books into films - flagellating monks get a bit tiresome.
Before I go on, let me bring you this picture - not a View from the Hill but a View up the Hill......
taken at Washingborough Road, Lincoln looking across the cemetery to the Cathedral - it is an imposing sight.
Having lived in its shadow in the past I sort of took it for granted, but now whenever I see it standing on the top of the hill, I always think about the effort it took to build the thing and the power of the church in this country.
Anyway, I am fighting back with my recording for the Prayer Project having been booked for next Wednesday so just need to find the two pieces to read. One will be from Robert Sexton, the poet Mrs B and I discovered in San Francisco and the second will be something traditional and I might run some options past you before the day arrives.
Lots of work this coming week, so better make a start on it.
